10 Awesome Science Podcasts

Great science podcasts I have discovered over the last few months. They are a great escape when you are missing the science community on campus and just cant listen to any more news.

  1. Radiolab: a weekly podcast by Jad Abumrad as a radio show by WNYC in New York City. It is designed for the general public and covers a wide range of topics using unique story telling methods that include a creative sound space.

  2. Nature Podcast: a weekly podcast by the journal Nature. It covers all areas of science and is helpful if you have some basic science knowledge. The format is very much like a news program.

  3. Science VS: a weekly post by Science Magazine. It covers all areas of science and is helpful if you have some basic science knowledge. The format is very much like a news program.

  4. Invisabilia: a weekly podcast by Alix Spiegel and Hanna Rosin as a radio show by NPR. It covers a wide range of science topics for the general public with the intent of helping you see the world and yourself differently.

  5. The weirdest thing i learned this week: an almost weekly podcast by some folks at Popular Science magazine. It covers a set of 3 or so fun and strange facts that the team uncovered in the past week. They dive into the facts behind the facts. t is designed for the general public and covers a wide range of topics in the format of an informal discussion.

  6. In defense of plants: a weekly podcast by Matt Candeias. It covers all things plants and often has great guest lecturers. It is intended for the general public and told as an engaging story based entirely in facts.

  7. Sawbones: a weekly podcast by Dr. Sydnee McElroy and Justin McElroy. They discuss odd medical fact, historical practices and how this impacts modern medical practice. This humorous podcast is great for all.

  8. This podcast will kill you: this podcast is published every two weeks and is hosted by disease ecologists and epidemiologists Erin Welsh and Erin Allmann Updyke. It covers medically related topics, historical and current. They have a set of podcasts dedicated to pandemics including COVID. It is designed for the general public and covers a wide range of topics in the format and is an informal conversation.

  9. Quirks and Quarks: this is a weekly podcast by CBC Radio One (Canadian Broadcast Cooperation). It covers a wide range of topics, includes lots of great facts and interviews with experts. It is designed for the general public.

  10. The Hidden Brain: a weekly podcast by Shankar Vedantam. It diseases how the brain work with a focus on what drives behavior and choice. The format is very much one of story telling.
